HEALTH authorities detected another Covid-19 cluster in Sabah today, while reporting 21 new infections across the country, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
The new Selamat cluster was detected in Semporna, stemming from a 32-year-old woman who tested positive during a screening when she was admitted to a hospital in Tawau for a premature delivery.
One of the medical officers who treated her then contracted the virus.
Noor Hisham said at least 116 people have since been screened in relation to the Selamat cluster.
The fresh cases bring the national toll of infections to 10,052.
Of the new cases, 16 are local transmissions and five are imported.
In terms of local transmissions, seven cases were detected in Kedah, five in Sabah, two in Penang, and one each in Selangor and Sarawak.
There have now been 474 cases in the Benteng Lahad Datu cluster, with two new infections as of today.
Meanwhile, there are still 2,838 people waiting for their test results in this cluster.
In Kedah, six cases were reported from the Sungai cluster involving healthcare workers, bringing the total number of infections in this cluster to 65. As many as 22,153 people have been screened in this cluster.
The remaining infection in Kedah was reported from a Covid-19 screening in Kota Setar, which is currently under an enhanced movement control order.
Noor Hisham reported 15 recoveries as of noon today, while 674 cases are still active.
Of this, 13 people are still in intensive care, of which two require respiratory assistance.
No deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours, meaning the number of fatalities nationwide remains at 128. β September 17, 2020.
