SYED Saddiq Abdul Rahman has officially submitted an application to register his new youth-based political party with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) in Putrajaya today.

The Malaysia United Democratic Alliance (Muda) must now await the RoS’ approval.

The former youth and sports minister said he was hopeful that the application would go through.

He did not reveal the leadership line-up.

“I will inform on the leadership structure (later),” he said while responding to a question on whether there was currently a pro tem president for the party.

Syed Saddiq, who is the former Bersatu youth chief, said Muda will have no age limit for members who want to join.

“Muda will represent people from all walks of life, regardless of their religion or race,” he added.

The party will consist of civil society leaders, teachers, farmers and others.

There will also be an interim process to admit members, he added.

Muda was formed after the split in Bersatu earlier this year, when the faction led by its president Muhyiddin Yassin took the party out of Pakatan Harapan to form a new government.

Those who disagreed with Muhyiddin were led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has founded a new party, Pejuang.

Syed Saddiq however, did not join Dr Mahathir and announced plans for a new youth-led party.

In an interview with BFM this morning, Syed Saddiq confirmed that his new party will run in elections.

“MUDA is for the long term. They may lose some battles to win the war,” he said in the interview.

He also said Muda would not form any alliance, as of now. – September 17, 2020.
