GABUNGAN Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has released a nine-point “Aku Janji”, or promise, to attract voters ahead of the state elections on September 26.

The coalition has promised to address issues connected to infrastructure, economy, job opportunities, the public service sector, health, education, security, youth and women’s development.

The political alliance, consisting of Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional and PBS, however, stopped short of promising any budget or royalty increases for Sabah.

Under the infrastructure section, GRS has promised to work with Putrajaya to build a bridge linking Labuan and Sabah, construct and repair more rural roads and restart the Pan-Borneo highway project.

It also promised to improve existing rail connections and consider new lines, if they win the state polls.

In the economic section, GRS has promised to turn Port Sepanggar into a trans-shipment hub to help boost the logistics sector in Sabah.

And in the second point, the coalition said it will consider creating a free-trade zone to support local industries.

Other points under the economic section include speeding up the construction of a road linking Kalabakan and Serudong, boosting SME activities, and boosting local strengths in each district.

On job opportunities, GRS has promised to bring in more investments, and ensure all Sabah projects will utilise local labour.

The coalition has also promised to improve or speed up processes to help Sabahans obtain more jobs and education opportunities.

The “Aku Janji” was sent to the media after Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin launched it earlier today in Kota Kinabalu. – September 16, 2020.
