MOHAMAD Sabu has moved to dispel talk that Husam Musa quit his post in Amanah over differences with him as claimed by party sources.

In a statement, the Amanah president said Husam has had a long history with him and both trace their ties to their time in PAS.

“From the time he left Universiti Malaya, we have been together in PAS. We have always exchanged views, given ceramah together and put in place strategies for PAS and the same can be said for Amanah,” he said in the statement today.

Yesterday, party sources told The Malaysian Insight that the senior Amanah leader quit his position as vice-president and Kelantan Pakatan Harapan chairman in protest against Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu.

Husam resigned two weeks ago, they said.

“He let go of his elected post in the party but not his Kota Baru Amanah chief post, which he won. The letter was sent two weeks ago but to date, there has been no feedback,” a source told The Malaysian Insight.

However, Husam swiftly denied the resignation but the Amanah leadership subsequently released a statement confirming that the former Kubang Kerian MP had quit his post.

Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said Husam wants to focus on work to win seats for the party in Kelantan, specifically the Kota Baru parliamentary seat.

“Any suggestion that he had quit his post over differences with the president or any other leaders in Amanah is baseless.

“He had quit to strengthen the party in Kelantan, specifically in Kota Baru,” he said in a statement.

Mat Sabu said Husam is a focused and strategic thinker and the party did not want to lose his leadership experience.

“So, when he expressed a desire to quit his position in the party, we decided to tap his experience and give him a bigger role and that is to be an adviser to three important party bureaus.”

The three are communications, elections and party strategy, which will lay out the Amanah road map for the next general election. – September 15, 2020.
