FORMER chief justice Richard Malanjum has endorsed Warisan Plus, urging Sabah folk to vote for the coalition’s candidates on September 26, the Borneo Post reported today.

Malanjum was spotted at the launch of Upko candidate Ewon Benedick’s election machinery on Saturday.

Malanjum said Warisan Plus led by Mohd Shafie Apdal aimed to “restore the wealth of the state including its rights on oil” and return native lands to the indigenous community which had been overlooked for many years.

“We want local parties who are sincere in their struggle in restoring Sabah’s rights, not those parties who are nominating themselves to create another ‘backdoor’ to allow Umno to once again enter Sabah to control us. Be careful of that,” Malanjum was quoted as saying in the report.

Last month, Malanjum’s name appeared on a purported list of Warisan’s election candidates. Rumours on social media have it that Malanjum could stand for election as a Warisan candidate.

Malanjum was the first East Malaysian to be named head of the Malaysian judiciary after Pakatan Harapan took control of the federal government in 2018. He retired in April last year. – September 14, 2020.
