PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang today sounded the clarion call for unity ahead of expected snap elections and amid growing rumblings on the ground about the party’s alliance with Umno.
The Marang MP said the current cooperation must be maintained and the team kept together to ensure victory at the15th general election.
If there is a split with its allies, which PAS had worked hard to forge, it will only benefit its enemies, he said.
“Let’s not be divided to face the elections this time so that we do not become losers. Let us not repeat the same mistake that we did before in the last GE, as now we have what we wanted.
“Let us unite to face the elections by being ready to win and form a stronger government,” said Hadi in his presidential speech at the 66th PAS muktamar in Pengkalan Chepa today.
The speech was also broadcasted on social media as attendance was limited due strict rules to curb Covid-19.
His speech is against a backdrop of the grassroots questioning its participation in the federal government.
Dissent is growing after the party was marginalised in the Sabah elections where Perikatan Nasional did not even offer it a single seat.
Today’s muktamar is taking place a year after PAS entered a cooperation with Umno in the name of Muafakat Nasional.
Bersatu joined the pact two weeks ago, making it the largest Malay-Muslim political cooperation in Malaysia. – September 13, 2020.
