PASIR Puteh MP Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh, who refused to apologise for saying the Bible was distorted, has suggested that Putrajaya place a shariah adviser in every government agency.

He proposed this today in his capacity as PAS Dewan Ulama chief at the party’s muktamar (annual general assembly) in Kelantan.

He said the shariah advisers would be able to ensure Islam’s position as the national religion was upheld when carrying policies.

“The PAS Dewan Ulama wishes to propose a motion that the country’s administration at each level and in each agency be guided by a shariah adviser,” Nik Zawawi said in the meeting, which is also being broadcast live on Facebook.

He said the proposal shouldn’t be problematic as it is not anything unusual as even financial institutions have shariah advisers on their boards.

“As such, we don’t think it is overboard if every government agency has at least one shariah adviser.

“This will ensure increased respect for the government and its stature in ensuring that Islam’s position as the country’s religion is upheld.”

He said the ulama wing in PAS has enough members with the capabilities to take up such positions in the government.

PAS is now a government party after joining Bersatu, Barisan Nasional and Sarawak parties to form the Perikatan Nasional government. – September 12, 2020.

  • Stupid nonsense. Shariah advisers or not, corruption is still festering in government agencies. What is needed are people with integrity, competency and experience to helm these agencies or to act as advisers, and not religious bigots.
