M. INDIRA Gandhi has called on Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador to stop focusing on her ex-husband and find her daughter, Prasana Diksa, instead.

She said she has not interest in police efforts to trace and negotiate with her former husband and fugitive, Muslim convert Muhammad Riduan Abdullah. 

She said she only wants her daughter back.

“He (IGP) is focusing on negotiating and bringing Riduan back to Malaysia, but we are not bothered about him. We are only concerned about Prasana.

“Where is Prasana? Is she with him or is she living separately? They should find that out.

“Her well-being is our concern, not Riduan,” she told The Malaysian Insight.

Indira was responding to Hamid’s comments that the police were using intermediaries to negotiate with Riduan for him to return to Malaysia and hand over their youngest child.

He said this case was “sensitive” and police faced “problems and limitations” in having the Riduan returned to Malaysia from abroad, adding that he can’t take action outside the law.

Hamid said police have formed a special team, led by a high-ranking officer, to persuade Riduan to come back even though they could not meet him in person.

He said investigators, including Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed, have met Indira and three other people last week.

Indira, however, slammed the police for concealing updates from her despite having met them last week, and accused the IGP of seeking publicity but avoiding her.

She said police could have revealed information on Prasana’s whereabouts to her and her lawyers during the meeting in Bukit Aman last week but was told they did not have any updates.

Indira also questioned the existence of “the special team”, saying that she only knew about the special task force that was formed under former IGP Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

“When we met the police last week, the IGP was absent and we met Huzir.

“They did not give us any updates, not even about their whereabouts but today the IGP seems to be giving all sorts of information to the media, which they (the police) didn’t reveal to us.

“He told us not to publicise this issue but in fact he is the one who is publicising it now.

“And what is the secretly formed special team? When we asked Huzir, even he was not aware,” she said, adding that the police could work with their counterparts in other countries to bring her daughter back.

Indira Gandhi Action Team (Ingat) chairman Arun Dorasamy, who was present in the meeting between Indira and the police, said they were not satisfied with the outcome of the meeting last week, and now seek a fresh appointment with the police  and the IGP by the end of the month.

“Basically the previous meeting looked like a bogus one.

“The IGP was supposed to meet Indira and give updates but he headed off elsewhere at the last minute.”

Riduan converted to Islam in 2009 and then converted their three children without Indira’s knowledge. He left with Prasana, who was 11 months old then, but left the other two older children. In 2010, the Ipoh High Court granted Indira custody of all three children.

Their two older children have since then stayed with Indira, who has been granted custody of all three children. The courts have also quashed their unilateral conversion to Islam by their father, a decision that was upheld by the Federal Court in January 2018. – September 11, 2020.
