SCIENCE, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has apologised on behalf of the government to Sabah student Veveonah Mosibin, of the “treetop” video fame.
Khairy posted on Facebook pictures of his meeting with her and her family.
“I have also suggested to Veve to collaborate with Yayasan Innovasi Malaysia to develop innovative projects at her village in environmental conservation.
Khairy earlier tweeted that the cabinet meeting had taken note that the actions of two deputy ministers in relation to the girl were wrong and inappropriate.
“The cabinet agreed the real issue is difficulty obtaining internet connectivity and other basic infrastructure in the interior. The government will continue its best efforts to improve this,” Khairy said on Twitter yesterday.
Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin and Deputy Finance Minister I Abdul Rahim Bakri had both accused Veveonah of lying about taking an exam in her YouTube video of herself spending the night in a tree.
She said in the video that she had to climb to the top of the tree in order to get an internet connection to sit for an online test.
Zahidi had said that Veveonah was seeking attention. He later apologised but blamed Rahim for giving him wrong information.
Bernama reported yesterday that Zahidi has apologised to Veveonah. – September 11, 2020.
