KUALA Lumpur police have received a report against PAS MP Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh over his claim that the Bible was “distorted or altered”.

KL Criminal Investigation Department chief Nik Ros Azhan said the report is now with the CID prosecution and law division (D5) in Bukit Aman.

“We received the report just recently, and the matter has been transferred to Bukit Aman D5 unit,” he said when contacted.

He said the complainant filed the report at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station, after which the complainant was told to give a statement at the Travers police station.

The Malaysian Insight has contacted D5 principal assistant director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid for comment.

Nik Zawawi caused outrage when he said Christians were allowed to imbibe alcohol because the Bible had been distorted, during last week’s sitting in Parliament.

Christian groups in Sabah and Sarawak as well as the Christian Federation of Malaysia demanded that he retract and apologise for his claims.

Amid the fury that he sparked and a police investigation for sedition, Pasir Puteh MP has stood by his comments, declining to say he is sorry.

Two members of Sabah-based Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku are suing Nik Zawawi over his remarks.

Tg Aru division chief Marcel Jude Joseph and party colleague Margaret Binsing said the PAS lawmaker’s remarks were blasphemous and disrespectful.

Their lawyer has filed an injunction to prevent Zawawi from making further discriminatory statements about their religion.

Their statement of claim said Zawawi had harmed, endangered, hurt, offended and scandalised them. – September 6, 2020.
