AIR Selangor began restoring water to consumers in the state as of noon today but Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said it will take another two days before water is flowing to 70% of affected households.

Amirudin said efforts to stabilise the water supply distribution system are in motion, adding his team needs about 24 to 48 hours to achieve this task and get water to seven out of 10 customers.

“We are trying our best to ensure that this issue will be solved as soon as possible because it is something that is very unacceptable for the public,” Amirudin told a press conference at the Air Selangor Command Centre today.

Previously, Air Selangor had issued a statement saying water is expected to be restored fully by 6am on September 9.

More than 1.2 million consumers in the Klang Valley were caught high and dry on Friday by the unscheduled water cut which began at 10am on Thursday after four treatment plants stopped operations due to pollution from a factory in Rawang’s Sungai Gong industrial area.

The factory at the centre of the storm has been identified as Yip Chee Seng & Sons, which services heavy machinery.

It has been accused of dumping motor oil into a drain that leads to the river.

The four brothers who owned the factory were arrested by police late last night, then earlier today remanded for six days to facilitate investigations. – September 5, 2020.
