FOUR factory managers suspected to be involved in the water pollution of Sungai Gong, Rawang, have been remanded for six days from today.

Selangor police chief Noor Azam Jamaludin told Bernama today, the suspects, aged between 50 and 60 would be remanded until Thursday for further investigation.

Noor Azam said, the suspects who are brothers have been managing the factory since their father’s death.

The remand order was issued by Sessions Court judge Nurul Mardhiah Mohamed Redza.

Noor Azam said three of the suspects were detained at their homes in Selayang about 11.20pm last night while one suspect was arrested when he reported at the Gombak district police station with his lawyer at 12.30am later that night.

The case is being investigated according to Section 430 of the Penal Code and all the suspects were brought to the Gombak district police headquarters for further investigation.

Following oil pollution which came from the factory, four Sungai Selangor water treatment plants (LRA) had to suspend operations since Thursday, disrupting water supply to a total of 1,292 areas in the Klang Valley, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat, involving nearly 1.2 million consumer accounts.

Meanwhile, Noor Azam said investigations into the four siblings would be thorough and police were also looking into the possibility of sabotage.

He said the task force investigating the incident would take into account all reports and findings submitted by the Department of Environment, Selayang Municipal Council and Air Selangor.

“We will conduct a detailed investigation during this remand period before the full report is referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action,” he said.

He also hoped that everyone would give his team the space to investigate the suspects in accordance with the provisions of the existing law. – Bernama, September 5, 2020.

  • The pollution act is tantamount to terrorism. The culprits should be treated like people who have entered a restricted and protected zone, and so deserve to be shot on sight! What has our authority been doing?
