AUTHORITIES have shut and fined the factory responsible for river contamination that led to the closure of four water treatment plants and a massive supply disruption in Selangor, said Amirudin Shari.

“Investigation papers have also been opened for prosecution,” tweeted the menteri besar.

He said clean-up works in Sg Selangor, involving the use of activated carbon to absorb odours and pumping 400 gallons of water from a catchment area to dilute the pollutants, have been ongoing since the unscheduled supply disruption started at 10am yesterday.

The four plants forced to close are Sg Selangor Phases 1, 2 and 3, and Rantau Panjang. They cannot operate until the pollution is down to “zero TON level”, said Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd earlier today.

Amirudin said 78 tankers, 22 jumbo tankers, 54 static tanks, 18 rural service centres and eight public pipes have been activated, and 23,000 5l bottles of drinking water distributed in the affected areas.

A total of 1,292 areas in the Klang Valley, namely in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat, are suffering dry taps.

Meanwhile, Selangorkini said the factory is a repeat offender, having been previously compounded RM60,000 for causing river pollution.

It reported state exco Hee Loy Sian as saying the Yip Chee Seng & Sons Sdn Bhd facility, which services machinery, did not dispose of oil waste according to regulations. – September 4, 2020.

  • Why isn't the name of the factory not mentioned in most reports? Malaysiakini says that the environmental criminal is a factory owned by Yip Chee Seng and Sons.

  • Bloody damm enforcement officers should also be sacked as this company is a repeated offender, check their lifestyle and bank account. In future whenever a factory runs fault we must first drag the enforcement officers and its Pengarah Pengarah to face the music.
