BERSATU is leaving it to its disciplinary board to determine the action to be taken against party member and former Johor menteri besar Osman Sapian, who allegedly campaigned for an independent candidate in the recent Slim by-election in Perak.

Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said today the board will investigate and, if necessary, call him up for an explanation.

Faizal, who is Perak Menteri Besar, spoke to reporters after Rural Development MinisterAbdul Latiff Ahmad called on him at the Menteri Besar’s Office in Ipoh.

Last Sunday, a viral video showed Osman, who is Kempas assemblyman in Johor, giving a speech during the campaign for Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi, the independent candidate who represented the yet-to-be-registered Pejuang in the Slim by-election.

Mohd Zaidi Aziz retained the seat for the Barisan Nasional by polling 13,060 votes in the by-election. Amir Khusyairi received 2,115 votes and another independent candidate, S. Santharasekaran, secured 276 votes.

On another matter, Faizal said Perak has yet to give any thought to whether or not to hold a state election simultaneously if the next general election is called soon.

For now, he said, the state government wants to focus on the economy and people’s welfare as it navigates through the Covid-19 pandemic. – Bernama, September 3, 2020.
