DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today questioned the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s powers to bar him from entering Sabah last night.

Stating that such matters are under the state’s purview, the former finance minister was finally allowed to in after 30 minutes.

In a Facebook post late yesterday, Lim said he was stopped by Immigration officers as he was about to leave the Kota Kinabalu International Airport close to midnight.

“I arrived almost midnight and I was granted a social pass visit but as I was about to enter my car and leave the airport, an officer from the Immigration Department stopped me and I was ushered to their office.

“After waiting for 20 minutes, they claimed that the MACC had put a blacklist on me. What is this? Doesn’t this fall under the Sabah government’s authority?”

Lim, however, was allowed to enter Sabah after 30 minutes but questioned the double standards against him.

“Najib Razak who was found guilty for corruption and power abuse can be allowed in, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is also facing trial can go in without trouble.

“I was stopped, is this a double standard practice? The state government has the power to let someone in, not the federal government,” said the Bagan MP.

He added that he would ask caretaker chief minister Mohd Shafie Apdal if he does not want the DAP leader to come into Sabah.

“I would ask Shafie Apdal, is he the one who does not want me in Sabah.”

Lim is facing corruption charges linked to the Penang undersea tunnel project.

His wife, Betty Chew, is also facing corruption charges.

Both have pleaded not guilty to all charges. – September 2, 2020.
