MALAYSIA has recorded a Covid-19 fatality for the third straight day, taking the death toll to 128, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The director-general of health said the victim is an 80-year-old woman with a history of lung cancer and high blood pressure.
She was among the cases identified in the Tawar cluster on August 15.
The woman experienced fever and chest pain on August 6, and was admitted to a medical centre. She was transferred to Penang General Hospital on August 14 after testing positive for the coronavirus.
Dr Noor Hisham also reported 14 new infections today, with nine of them being local transmissions.
Of the local cases, five are Malaysians, with one each in the Tawar and Telaga clusters in Kedah. The other three are in the new Benteng LD cluster.
The imported cases, meanwhile, are foreigners who got infected in Ukraine, Pakistan, Indonesia and the Philippines.
With another 21 recoveries, the total now stands at 9,075 out of 9,354 cases.
Five patients are in intensive care, of whom three require respiratory assistance. – September 1, 2020.
