THE much-awaited meeting between M. Indira Gandhi and Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador over her missing daughter will be on Thursday in Bukit Aman.

Indira Gandhi Action Team (Ingat) chairman Arun Dorasamy said they have called off the hunger strike slated for this month after the IGP agreed to the meeting at the federal police headquarters.

“We are very pleased that the IGP has agreed to meet us. We will be going for the meeting with Indira and our lawyers,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

He said the meeting will be attended by lawyers Ambiga Sreenevasan and Sachpreetraj Singh Sohanpal.

Last month, Indira had planned to stage a hunger strike in front of Bukit Aman on September 11, due to the police’s failure to update her on her daughter’s whereabouts.

Hamid had agreed to meet Indira but on the condition that she is alone.

On August 13, Indira said she was surprised that Hamid wanted to meet her alone and she needs her lawyers to explain to her any legal terms.

“I need someone to advise me. They (the lawyers) have more details on what had transpired,” she said.

Indira is looking to be reunited with her youngest child, Prasana Diksa, who was snatched by her estranged husband, Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, in 2009.

Hamid had previously promised Indira a “happy ending” to her saga, which has now stretched to 12 years.

Arun said they are looking forward to a complete discussion and briefing on the investigative updates since the Special Task Force to locate Prasana was set up in 2019.

He also said they want to take the opportunity to meet and greet the new officer in charge of the investigation.

“Ingat would also like to get clarification on the Home Ministry’s recent Parliament updates on Indira Gandhi’s case.

“Ingat is ready to share some intelligence on the investigation upon a full satisfactory briefing from the Special Task Force,” he said in a statement.

Arun hopes the meeting will bring the case and the saga to close as soon as possible.

“It has been 12 years, five IGPs, three governments and they are still unable to track or return Prasana as per the Federal Court order?

“We ought to question if we are serious in delivering justice by the means of rule of law or we are trying to dodge the responsibility to bend for some specific interest. Justice shall prevail.”

Riduan, a Muslim convert, in 2014 was ordered by the Ipoh High Court to return Prasana but failed to do so, leading to a mandamus order by the court compelling the then IGP to arrest him.

Indira is also suing Hamid for RM100 million for failing to locate her daughter.

Riduan made off with Prasana after he unilaterally converted the couple’s three children to Islam. He is now in defiance of a court order to return the child to her mother.

The court granted Indira custody of her three children after finding their conversion to be unlawful. – September 1, 2020.
