DAP has set up a unit to help those facing difficulties getting an extension from banks over their loans at the end of the moratorium, said Khoo Poay Tiong.

The Kota Melaka MP said DAP has received a lot of complaints, leading to its website aduanmoratorium.com.

“Borrowers who are facing problems can list their details on the site and let us know the difficulties they’re facing with the financial institutions,” he said during a press conference at the party’s headquarters today.

Once all the data has been collected, an analysis will be done and then it will be sent to Bank Negara and the federal government, he said.

The form can be downloaded from the site and is divided into two sections – one is the personal information and the other to list down the complainant’s difficulty with the bank.

The form is be available in four languages – Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin and Tamil.

On Sunday, in a special announcement, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the recovery movement-control order is extended until December 31.

Last month, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said borrowers must begin servicing their loans from October as the moratorium will end as scheduled on September 30.

He told Parliament that banks will instead take a targeted approach in helping borrowers with restructuring their existing loans.

“An extension of the bank loan moratorium for another six months is required as eight million Malaysian individuals and companies have benefited from the loan moratorium which is valued at RM74.3 billion” said Lim Guan Eng.

Lim, the DAP secretary-general, said an additional six-month loan moratorium will only cost the banks some RM6.4 billion. – September 1, 2020.
