A MEETING of 30 Malaysian youth led by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has reached a resolution towards the formation of a new party.

An announcement will be made “very soon”, said the former youth and sports minister, who chaired the three-hour talks.

“It was a very positive meeting. A resolution was reached, and we will make an announcement very soon,” he said after the Rundingan Muda Malaysia meet at Sultan Sulaiman Club in Kg Baru, Kuala Lumpur, today.

The 28-year-old did not elaborate when pressed for details.

Among the attendees were former Permodalan Nasional Bhd CEO Abdul Jalil Rasheed, and start-up founders Vinesh Sinha (FatHopes Energy), Liew Ooi Hann (RinggitPlus), Nadhir Shafiq (TheLorry) and Radzi Tajuddin (Hi Home), he said.

“Not all of them are entrepreneurs. We also have lawyer Lim Wei Jiat, Amir Abdul Hadi from Suara Rakyat Malaysia, Orang Asli activist Shaq Koyak, child rights advocate Syed Azmi (Alhabshi) and teacher Cheryl Ann Fernando (whose experiences are chronicled in the) Adiwiraku film.”

Syed Saddiq, along with Dr Mahathir Mohamad and five others, lost their Bersatu membership for supporting the opposition when president Muhyiddin Yassin took the party out of Pakatan Harapan and teamed up with Barisan Nasional, PAS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak to form Perikatan Nasional.

The Muar MP has said he will form a youth party with a lateral leadership structure, with plans to contest in both urban and rural seats.

The outfit will not side with either PH or PN, he said.

Syed Saddiq opted not to join Pejuang, Dr Mahathir’s new party that mirrors Bersatu and Umno’s fight for Malay rights. – August 31, 2020.

  • Biggest hope the country has is in this movement. The toxic politics of Mahathir has to end. And no better move than this youth movement. The incompetence shown by Anwar is also holding this country back so time to move on from the Anwar era.

  • The proposed change in our political scene has long been awaited. It is good and the momentum must be going strong.
