THERE were no new cases recorded in the Tawar cluster today, keeping the total infection number of the cluster to 73.
However, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said five new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the nation’s cumulative number to 9,296.
They include three local transmissions while the other two were imported cases.
Noor Hisham said the cases of local transmission involving Malaysians were detected in Malacca.
“Two cases of local transmission were detected during pre-surgical screening and one was detected during symptomatic screening. All were at Hospital Angkatan Tentera Kem Terendak,” he said.
However, Noor Hisham said, it has not been classified as a new cluster.
“Of the two imported cases, one was from the Philippines and the other from Egypt,” he said in a Covid-19 press conference today.
The number of active cases is now at 177
There were 16 recoveries as of noon today, bringing the total to 8,994.
Eight patients are currently in the intensive care unit with six requiring respiratory support.
No deaths were recorded today, keeping the figure at 125 or 1.34% of total cases. – August 27, 2020.
