3 Kedah areas face lockdown after virus outbreak

THREE areas in Aman Jaya, Kedah will be under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting midnight, following a spike in Covid-19 cases.

Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the areas facing a lockdown are Mawar, Kenanga and Melor.

“At  midnight, three zones in Aman Jaya will be placed under EMCO. The government will announce later when the order is be lifted. For now, a date has not been specified,” he said this afternoon.

Ismail said health officials will screen 22,360 people in Aman Jaya for infection.

“We will cover 265 homes and 22,360 people.”

Residents are not allowed to leave and visitors may not enter Aman Jaya while the EMCO is in effect, he said.

This applies to those who wish to exit to go to work and others who want to enter to go to work.

“Nobody gets in or out – not even for work,” said Ismail.

“The employers are advised not to penalise the staff (for absenteeism). This is an order from the government. They can discuss if it is possible to work from home.”

Houses of worship and schools are ordered to close starting tomorrow.

“No religious activities are allowed. Schools, kindergartens or tuition centres are also not allowed to operate.”

Ismail said restaurants and convenience stores are allowed to open but only for takeaway and from 8am to 8pm.

Gas stations, pharmacies, restaurants and shops can also open for business during the allotted hours.
