3 Tawar cluster cases among 6 reported today

THE Tawar cluster of Covid-19 infections today recorded three new cases in Kedah, raising the total to 73.

The three infections are among the six new cases reported nationwide today. 

Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 4,051 people have been screened in this cluster, which stretches across Kedah, Penang and Perak.

“From 3,514 people screened in Kedah, 62 have been tested positive, 2,884 negative and 568 are still waiting for results.”

“In Penang, 526 have been screened, with 11 testing positive, 513 negative and two  awaiting results,” said Dr Noor Hisham in a press statement. 

In Perak, he said 11 people screened tested negative.

The country’s total number of infections is 9,291.

Of the six infections reported today, five, including the Tawar cluster cases, are local transmissions, while the sixth is an imported case from Singapore.

“The one imported case involved a Singaporean and it was reported in Selangor,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

The other local transmissions involved one case of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and a symtomatic screening case, both at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Kedah.

With seven recoveries today, active cases stand at 188, while no new deaths were reported. – August 26, 2020.
