THE uproar surrounding Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Khairuddin Aman Razali is unwarranted as there are no Covid-19 clusters resulting him violating quarantine, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Tuan Ibrahim said Khairuddin has been fined by the Health Ministry after he skipped quarantine upon his return on July 7.

“He has paid a maximum fine of RM1,000, he didn’t start a cluster.

“He has taken swab tests, and his mistake has been paid for,” Tuan Ibrahim said after an event in Kota Baru today.

He said Khairuddin also atoned for his action by donating his salary to the Covid-19 fund.

“The important thing is he is fined and sacrificed his salary. It should not be an issue anymore.

“We should focus on the (existing) Covid-19 clusters.”

After public outcry, Khairuddin said he would donate his May-August salary.

Apologising for his wrongdoing, he said it was his responsibility as a minister to comply with the standard operating procedure implemented throughout the recovery movement control order in the fight against the pandemic.

A minister’s monthly salary is reported to be RM14,907.20.

Despite that, Khairuddin is still open to further action from the authorities.

The RM1,000 compound issued to Khairuddin is the highest amount permitted under the Health Ministry’s jurisdiction, said director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today.

“According to Act 342 the maximum compound is RM1,000 for those who violate regulatory orders and home surveillance order.

“Having said that, the PDRM is still conducting investigations following police reports made,” he said on Twitter. – August 23, 2020.

  • Just cos there is no infection yet traceable to him breaking quarantine rules does not justify breaking the law. If this is justifiable then a whole host of crimes should similarly be forgiven for eg planting a bomb which failed to explode, or throwing a knife and missing the target. The law is made to be observed not violated. The fact that it has been breached by a Minister responsible in making the quarantine rules in itself shows contempt for the law which all non-minister malaysians or should we say all non-PN MPs Malaysians are expected to comply
