ATONING for his mistake of violating the Covid-19 quarantine rule, Plantation, Industries, and Commodities Minister Khairuddin Aman Razali has announced that he will donate his salary from May to August to the Covid-19 fund.
Apologising for his wrongdoing, he said it is his responsibility as a minister to comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) implemented throughout the recovery movement control order (RMCO) in the fight against the pandemic.
“To express the sense of responsibility, I would like to return my salary as a minister for the months of May until August 2020 to the Covid-19 fund under the Health Ministry,” Khairuddin said in a statement today.
He added that the salaries for March and April have been donated to the fund following a cabinet decision.
A minister’s monthly salary is reported to be RM14,907.20.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced in March that all cabinet members would donate two months’ salary to the fund.
Khairuddin also pledged to continue to work harder as a minister to ensure that all Malaysians involved in the plantation and commodity industry, especially B40 smallholders, receive the necessary benefits and to take care of their welfare.
Earlier today, the Health Ministry said Khairuddin had been compounded RM1,000 on August 7 under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
The minister reportedly paid the fine.
Khairuddin returned from Turkey on July 7. The first nasopharyngeal swab was taken on the same day and tested negative. The second and third Covid-19 screenings also came back negative.
“As Khairuddin had breached the rules under Act 342, the authorised officer had issued a compound of RM1,000 to him on August 7. He has paid the compound,” the ministry said.
Khairuddin is accused of not observing the mandatory 14-day quarantine after returning from abroad as stipulated by the National Security Council.
Overseas returnees are tested on arrival for the virus and again two weeks later.
Khairuddin said he was tested three times for Covid-19 since his trip, most recently on Monday. – August 22, 2020.

If jail time was required for rakyat, I don't see any reason why this minister shouldn't be jailed.
RM1000 fine is too cheap
