Restaurant source of new KL cluster

THE Health Ministry has detected a new Covid-19 cluster stemming from a restaurant in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur, after three individuals tested positive.

Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today said two of the eatery’s employees returned positive results on Sunday in a random screening of restaurant workers in the capital.

“To date, a total of 672 people – 16 employees and 656 customers – have been screened.

“Of these, three tested positive, while the rest tested negative.”

On the customer who tested positive, Dr Noor Hisham said: “He has been experiencing a sore throat and headache since August 17. He is now warded at Sg Buloh Hospital.”

He said three new cases have been confirmed in the Tawar cluster, bringing its total to 58.

So far, 2,733 people have been screened in relation to the cluster, he said.

“In Kedah, 2,256 individuals have been screened for the virus. Forty-seven tested positive, 1,985 tested negative and 49 are still waiting for their results.

“In Penang, 466 people have been screened, of whom 11 tested positive, 430 tested negative and 25 are awaiting their results.”
