KEDAH recorded seven new Covid-19 cases today, four from the Tawar cluster and three from the Sala cluster.

Four more cases linked to the Tawar cluster were also detected in Penang.

Eight new cases take the number of infections from the Tawar cluster to 59, while the Sala cluster has stemmed 11 cases with today’s three new cases.

With four of the patients detected out of the state, Kedah’s caseload is 66.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of noon today, authorities have screened 1,910 people linked to the Tawar cluster and 668 individuals connected to the Sala cluster.

Meanwhile, 514 more people linked to the two clusters are awaiting the test results.

Noor Hisham said close contact tracing and active case detection for these clusters were ongoing.

He had previously said that the Tawar cluster stemmed from a family gathering where the attendees did not comply with health and safety guidelines.

On the Sala cluster, he said the index case had visited a patient in a hospital.

He said the infections could have been prevented if the people had avoided the “3Cs” of crowded places, confined spaces and close conversations. – August 19, 2020.
