16 new virus cases, 8 from Tawar cluster

MALAYSIA today reported 16 new coronavirus cases, 12 of which are local transmissions, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

There were 23 recoveries in the last 24 hours, he added.

Of the 12 local transmissions, eight are linked to the Tawar cluster in Kedah. Four of them were detected in Kedah and four more in Penang. 

All four imported cases were foreigners. Three of them were from the Sala cluster, also in Kedah, and one in Johor, where the asymptomatic patient was found to be infected in a test. 

The death toll remains at 125 with no new fataliies.

Total cases now number 9,235, and recoveries, 8,925. There are 185 active cases. – August 19, 2020.
