THE Registrar of Societies today received an application to register Pejuang, the party founded by Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The submission was made in Putrajaya today by the party leaders, led by de facto Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir.

Simpang Renggam MP Dr Maszlee Malik, Sri Gading MP Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh and former Bersatu sectetary-general Marzuki Yahya were among the group at the RoS today.

Dr Mahathir was not present.

Speaking to reporters later, Mukhriz said they hoped the RoS could approve their application swiftly.

The former Kedah menteri besar said the party would conduct elections as soon as it was approved to select 21 executive council members.

He confirmed Dr Mahathir would be the party chairman.

“Many people have expressed interest in joining us. We will prepare an online process for them to do so. They can start applying as soon as the party is approved,” he said.

He also provided the rationale for the party logo, saying it sported a Jawi character to symbolise ‘Pejuang’, and that the three dots above stood for religion, faith and the Rukun Negara.

Dr Mahathir announced the establishment of Pejuang on August 7, saying the party would uphold the Malay struggle that other Malay parties had neglected to do.

The founding members of Pejuang are from Bersatu.

Bersatu recently purged nearly 300 members, including assemblymen and supreme council members, who were loyal to founder Dr Mahathir.

In late May, the party had dismissed Dr Mahathir and several other MPs in his camp. – August 19, 2020.
