THE Kuala Lumpur High Court today dismissed Rosmah Mansor’s application for ad hoc prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram to produce his licence to prosecute her case.

Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan said Sri Ram’s appointment in 2018 was made by then attorney-general (A-G) and that there was no evidence to the contrary.

He added Rosmah has not justified her request in applying to have the appointment letter produced in court, and the application came too late.

He said Sri Ram has led the prosecution since the trial began in February.

“Gopal Sri Ram’s conduct of the trial is of public knowledge. The applicant was represented by able counsel and had not taken issue on his presence.

“Therefore, the application is dismissed,” Zaini said.

Last month, Rosmah filed an application to compel Sri Ram, who is leading the prosecution in the solar hybrid trial to produce his licence to prosecute.

Sri Ram was also appointed to lead the prosecution team in Rosmah’s husband Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia Development Berhad trial.

Sri Ram was appointed by former A-G Tommy Thomas.

In this trial, Rosmah, 69, faces three corruption charges, one of which is for soliciting RM187.5 million as inducement to help Jepak Holdings secure the solar hybrid project in Sarawak.

She is also accused of receiving bribes totalling RM6.5 million in 2016 and 2017. – August 19, 2020.
