THE government is considering making the MySejahtera application mandatory, said Mohd Redzuan Yusoff.

The minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (special functions) told the Dewan Rakyat this morning the Attorney-General’s Chambers is studying how to make this enforceable as law.

“We are also trying to build a new culture for people to use this on their own,” Redzuan said during the minister question time.

He was responding to Dr Kelvin Yii’s (Kuching-PH) question on the response to business premises that still record customer information manually instead of using the MySejahtera app.

As for data protection, Redzuan said MySejahtera users are protected by the Personal Data Protection Act but stopped short of saying whether the data would be deleted.

This was to Yii’s question on concerns that the data collected via MySejahtera would be abused.

Redzuan also said that 322 Covid-19 patients have been detected through the MySejahtera app.

“As of August 16, 15.1 million people have also registered on MySejahtera,” said the Alor Gajah MP.

Redzuan was responding to Dr Lee Boon Chye (Gopeng-PH), who asked about the number of MySejahtera users and whether the app has helped the government detect Covid-19 users.

Redzuan, however, could not answer why there were still third-generation Covid-19 infections in the Sivangangga and Kulim clusters in Kedah, when questioned on MySejahtera’s effectiveness. – August 18, 2020.

  • How about people who don't own a smartphone? Also, looking towards the future when we have tourists who do not have data roaming?
