NAJIB Razak today told Felda settlers that he did his best for them, including by giving cash and Raya bonuses, during his time as prime minister.
“Everything I did, I did it for you. I am not lying. You can judge between the 22 months of Pakatan Harapan rule and nine years under me,” said the Barisan Nasional adviser during a programme with voters in Felda Gunung Besout 1, Slim.
“Who gave you RM15,000 in cash during the FGV (Holdings Bhd) listing? Who gave you Raya bonuses?
“If we had won again (in the 2018 general election), we would have given you more.”
He said BN, when it was in power, helped the poor by setting up settlements like Felda.
“We were in the government to help the people, but they called me a thief.
“But 99% of the money was used for social welfare and politics. That money I gave to Umno, tahfiz schools, orphanages and such.
“I was fined RM3 million for giving money to orphans.”
The Pekan MP said he did not solicit the funds transferred by SRC International Sdn Bhd into his personal account.
“I took an oath in court that I did not ask for the money, nor was I offered it.”
He was referring to the SRC International case, in which he was found guilty on all seven charges for receiving RM42 million from the 1Malaysia Development Bhd subsidiary.
Najib was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and fined RM210 million. However, the court has stayed the execution of the sentence pending his appeal at the Court of Appeal.
The former prime minister said he did not give cash aid, such as Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia, to corrupt people.
“We wanted you to spur the local economy. We knew that if we helped people (by giving them money), they would spend locally. Other countries do the same.
“So, if you sympathise with me, please vote for the BN candidate.”
The programme with Felda folk is part of the Slim by-election campaign that kicked off today. It is Najib’s first speaking event since he was convicted on July 28.
The Slim by-election will be a three-way fight between BN’s Mohd Zaidi Aziz and two independents, namely Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi and Santhara Segaran Subramaniam.
Amir Khusyairi, a former Bersatu member, is contesting on behalf of Pejuang, a new party set up by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. – August 15, 2020.

Using national coffer for own gains, leaving some breadcrumbs for the public and now call it a heroic act!
Only in Malaysia that a person being charged for wrongdoing can still be roaming free and preaches his lies!
