TWENTY new Covid-19 cases have been recorded today, taking the nation’s cumulative number of cases to 9,149.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that 13 of the new cases were local transmissions involving Malaysians, while the other seven were imported cases.
He said there was also a new cluster detected in Kedah, named the Muda cluster.
“In the local transmissions involving Malaysians, 10 cases were reported in the Tawar cluster, one from the new Muda cluster. One was a case of severe acute respiratory infection and the last was from Penang who had close contact with another Covid-19 positive individual from the Tawar cluster,” he said.
As for the breakdown of seven imported cases, three were from Lebanon and one each from Indonesia, France, Yemen and Taiwan.
The number of active cases is now at 196.
There were seven recoveries as of noon today, bringing the total to 8,828.
Four patients are currently in the intensive care unit with one requiring respiratory support.
No deaths were recorded today, keeping the figure at 125 or 1.37% of total cases. – AFP, August 14, 2020.
