JOHOR Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin must be investigated as his denial of graft allegations does not clear his name, says DAP’s legal bureau chief, Gobind Singh Deo.

Gobind said he would write to Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the allegations against Khaled, which were first raised by a DAP assemblyman in the Johor legislative assembly.

“We all know, we have read what (Senai assemblyman) Wong (Shu Qi) said during the debate (in the Johor state assembly). And we know that Khaled has responded.

“But what is needed is an investigation. We are not saying Khaled committed any offence, but there was information that was raised in the assembly sitting, and a denial alone cannot close the matter or make it go away,” said Gobind at the Johor police contingent headquarters today, where he had accompanied Wong, who was questioned by the police.

Gobind, who is Wong’s lawyer, spent 40 minutes with the police to record her statement for investigations into leaked MACC witness statements in a property scandal case that involved a former Johor exco, Abd Latif Bandi, who has been charged.

Wong, citing the statements that were part of MACC’s investigation, had questioned if Khaled was involved in the scandal based on information that alleged he had received bribes for converting the status of a residential plot of land from Bumiputera to non-Bumiputera status.

Khaled has denied the allegations, calling them lies and slander.

The MACC has called for police action to investigate the document leak.

Gobind today questioned the need for police to take Wong’s statement as she should have immunity as a lawmaker when speaking in the legislative assembly.

“Wong was doing her job as a lawmaker,” he said. – December 8, 2017.
