FORMER finance minister Lim Guan Eng pleaded not guilty to a charge of soliciting a 10% bribe from the profits of the RM6.3 billion highway and undersea tunnel projects in Penang.
He was charged at a special corruption court in Kuala Lumpur today before judge Azura Alwi.
Lim was accused of committing the offence in March 2011 near The Gardens Hotel, Mid Valley in Kuala Lumpur, while he was still the Penang chief minister.
He allegedly solicited the bribe from Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkilfi, whose company was appointed by Penang to implement the project.
Lim was represented by Gobind Sing Deo, Ram Karpal Singh and R.S.N. Rayer while the prosecution was led by Wan Shahruddin Wan Ladin, who is assisted by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib.
Present in court included Lim’s father and Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Penang deputy chief minister II Dr P. Ramasamy, DAP organising secretary, Seremban MP Anthony Loke and former deputy defence minister Liew Chin Tong.
Azura set bail at RM1 million in two sureties, with RM500,000 to be paid today and the balance by Monday.
The court also told Lim to surrender both his international and diplomatic passports.
Case management is fixed on September 9.
The bailors are his sister, Lim Hui Ming, and Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai. – August 7, 2020.

But when it comes to prosecution - i just hope it has been fairer.
I'm pretty sure there are better cases that should have been in the court instead of this.
This is purely political revenge.
