RECREATION in big cities need not take place in open spaces as many developers have provided indoor and elevated facilities, said Annuar Musa.

The Federal Territories minister was responding to Hannah Yeoh (Segambut-PH) in the Dewan Rakyat today on the gazetting of two plots of land in Mont Kiara for recreational use.

“As I said earlier, development projects are dependent on the existing laws and local plan.

“Under the 2020 Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan and the 2040 one (that has yet to be gazetted), the two plots of land are not classified as open spaces.

“This land belongs to the government, which the land commissioner has placed conditions on.”

Annuar said the two plots were also not designated open spaces under the KL Structure Plan.

Yeoh said she hoped that the government would consider gazetting the two plots of land as recreational land seeing that Mont Kiara was already heavily developed.

“The two plots were initially marked as highway reserve land,” said Yeoh.

Annuar replied: “Originally, the land was excess land reserved for highways. This is the excess. Nevertheless, we will examine the issue based on the recommendations given.”

“Recreation in big cities are no longer limited to open spaces because many developers have provided recreational spaces by using modern methods, such as indoor and elevated facilities,” the minister added. – August 5, 2020.
