POLICE have recommended unlawful assembly charges against 12 suspects in the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, as well as a second inquest into his death, Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin said.

Hamzah told the Dewan Rakyat that police had submitted investigation papers to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on July 23 with these recommendations.

“Police investigated the case on the orders of the AGC following the findings of the Shah Alam coroner’s inquest, and submitted investigation papers with these recommendations.

“That is, to charge 12 suspects under Section 143 of the Penal Code, and to request another inquest with the agreement of the AGC,” he said in his ministry’s winding up speech in the debate on the royal address.

Police resumed investigations into Adib’s death following the inquest, which ruled on September 27 last year that the 24-year-old’s death was not caused by an accident, but by a criminal act involving two or more unknown persons.

Adib sustained serious injuries during a riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya on November 27, 2018, and died 21 days later at the National Heart Institute.

The inquest into his death saw contradictory evidence being presented by forensic pathologists.

Adib’s family meanwhile, is reportedly planning to sue police and claim compensation for their failure to control the riot, leading to his death. – August 4, 2020.

  • What about the 50 armed Malay thugs who attacked the Seafield temple and worshipers in it just before this, and caused the riot to transpire? Why have they been let off scot free?
The PDRM and the AG need to answer.
