No need for masks when doing physical activity, says senior minister

MASKS are not mandatory when doing physical activities or when travelling in personal vehicles, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said masks must be worn only on public transport and crowded public places.

Public place such as wet, farmers’ and night markets, supermarkets, tourist spots and cinemas are among the places designated as crowded areas, he said in a statement.

“However, masks are not compulsory in private vehicles and homes.

“The use of masks is also not compulsory when doing physical activities and for children below the age of 2.” 

Putrajaya has made it compulsory to wear masks in public places from August 1.

Those who do not comply can be compounded RM1,000 under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

The decision, made at a meeting of the National Security Council, was in view of the rising number of infections in recent days. – August 3, 2020.
