PUTRAJAYA is in the midst of finalising the route and stations under Section C of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), said Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong.

The railway project is divided into three parts – Section A (Kota Baru-Dungun), Section B (Dungun-Mentakab) and Section C (Mentakab-Port Klang).

“The process is being carried out so that the government can evaluate certain factors, such as the project’s viability, connectivity and financial implications, before approving the route,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was responding to a question by Jalaludin Alias (Jelebu-BN) on whether there are changes to the routes announced by the previous Pakatan Harapan government.

Wee said there are some shortcomings and technical issues that must be looked into.

On June 11, the National Physical Planning Council had a meeting with menteris besar to discuss changes to the ECRL routes, and it then decided to refer the matter to the Transport Ministry and chief secretary to the government, he said.

He added that the ministry has met state governments twice, and another meeting will be held with the Selangor administration this week.

Wee was replying to a supplementary question by Jalaludin on whether feedback from stakeholders has been sought. – August 3, 2020.
