THE Bukit Timah Covid-19 cluster in Johor has now spread beyond the state, with one case detected in Selangor, said the Health Ministry (MOH).

Of the country’s nine new cases announced today, one is linked to this cluster, which currently has 10 positive cases, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement today in his daily Covid-19 update.

“Patient number 8,893 (from Johor) was found to have stayed at the home of patient number 8,977 from July 16 to19 in Selangor through close-contact tracing,” he said.

“Patient 8,977 tested positive for Covid-19 in his second test after displaying cough and sore throat symptoms. He has been admitted into Sg Buloh Hospital for treatment.”

This is the first cross-border Covid-19 case since the major outbreak parked by the Sri Petaling Tabligh cluster, which infected 3,375 people across all states.

The Sri Petaling cluster, which was first detected on March 11, saw 42,023 samples taken with 34 deaths recorded. MOH finally closed the cluster 4 months later on July 8.

Noor Hisham said 135 people of the Bukit Timah cluster have been tested so far, with 124 individuals cleared of Covid-19.

However, 10 have been tested positive, nine of whom are from Johor, while the results of the rest are pending. – August 1, 2020.
