THE Ministry of Health has advised people against holding large gatherings to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha tomorrow.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry was concerned about the risk of Covid-19 spreading during the celebration, adding that the ministry has developed several standard operating procedures (SOPs) for celebrations.

“The ministry advises the public to refrain from holding any large gathering for the Aidiladha celebration,” he said in his Covid-19 press briefing today at Putrajaya.

“The ministry also wants to emphasise that the use of facemask is strongly encouraged in crowded and narrow places, especially if physical distancing is difficult.”

He said that the three pillars of safety – social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing a face mask – were important and should be practised regularly.

He also urged Malaysians to travel safely and follow the SOPs issued at the rest and recreation (R&R) areas if they are stopping for a break from travel. – July 30, 2020.
