13th consecutive day new virus cases outnumber recoveries

MALAYSIA recorded 13 new Covid-19 cases today, increasing the number of active cases to 220. 

The nation’s total number of infections now stands at 8,956.

There were five recoveries, bringing the number of total recoveries to 8,612. 

This makes today the 13th consecutive day new cases have outnumbered recoveries.

The last time Malaysia recorded more recoveries than new cases was on July 16. 

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 13 new cases, eight are imported and five are local transmissions. 

The local transmissions involved three Malaysians and two foreigners.

“Of the local transmission involving Malaysians, one case in Johor was detected during a workplace screening, one is from the Sentosa cluster and one case was detected during symptomatic screening in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

“As for the two foreigners, one case was detected in the Mambong cluster while the other was detected during a screening of illegal immigrants before being transferred to the Kangar Immigration Depot,” he said in a statement today

He said no new clusters were detected over the last 24 hours.

Noor Hisham said two patients are being treated in intensive care units, with one requiring respiratory support.

No deaths were recorded today, keeping the number of fatalities at 124, or 1.38% of total cases. – July 29, 2020.
