PUTRAJAYA will not carry on with the petrol-subsidy programme (PSP) that the previous Pakatan Harapan government had planned, said Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Rosol Wahid.

He said the decision was made during a meeting with the Finance Ministry on July 9.

“The meeting decided on two things. Firstly, it is to not continue with the PSP. The Finance Ministry will prepare a memorandum to finalise the government’s stance on the PSP,” he said in Parliament.

He did not say what Putrajaya was proposing for its fuel subsidy programme.

The targeted fuel subsidy programme (PSP) was supposed to be implemented in January but was postponed to an unspecified date.

It was meant to benefit two categories of people.

The first was Bantuan Sara Hidup (cost of living aid) recipients, who would get a petrol subsidy of RM30 a month if they are car owners or RM12 a month if they own a motorcycle.

The second category would be non-BSH recipients who would receive the Kad95, which would enable them to enjoy a fuel subsidy of 30 sen per litre up to 100 litres per month for cars or up to 40 litres a month for motorcycles.

Rosol was responding to a supplementary question by Shaharizukirnain Abd. Kadir’s question (Setiu-PAS) on the government’s plans with the PSP. – July 29, 2020.
