ANOTHER two new Covid-19 clusters comprising five Malaysians and four foreign nationals were reported today, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

The first cluster, called PUI Sivagangga, is in Kedah where one Malaysian and four foreigners have tested positive out of 28 people screened.

The index case was a foreigner with permanent residency in Malaysia who had tested negative upon arrival from India at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on July 13.

The individual underwent a home surveillance order but did not fully comply and was taken into custody by authorities, and tested positive for Covid-19 after another screening. The person is now at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star.

This index case also owned an eatery and the four foreigners who tested positive had worked here. The sole Malaysian who tested positive is a family member of the index case, Noor Hisham said in a statement today.

The four foreign workers had shared the same living quarters with the index case.

“The eatery has been closed for cleaning and disinfection,” Noor Hisham said.

The second cluster was discovered at a wet market in Satok, Sarawak, where 229 shopkeepers have been screened to date.

Of these, four locals have tested positive for Covid-19, with the remaining negative.

Noor Hisham said the Satok cluster patients are asymptomatic and have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital.

Cleaning and disinfection of the Satok market is also underway.

Sarawak saw a spike in the number of new cases with 21 local and 4 imported cases as of today.

Nationally, the 39 new cases announced today is also the highest since June 15, when 41 new infections were reported. – July 28, 2020.
