MALAYSIA has reported 39 new Covid-19 cases and two new clusters today, raising the number of active cases to 212.
This is the highest number of new cases in a day since June 15, when 41 new infections were reported.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 39 new cases, 28 were local transmissions and 11 were imported.
The local transmissions today involved 22 Malaysians and six foreigners.
The country’s total number of infections is now 8,943.
The two new clusters, meanwhile, were identified in Kedah and Sarawak.
Noor Hisham said in the last 24 hours, six patients had been discharged from hospital, bringing the number of recoveries to 8,607.
The death toll stands at 124 with no new deaths reported.
Sarawak has the highest number of new locally transmitted cases at 21.
The hornbill state currently contains five clusters – Sentosa, Kuching Engineering, Satok, Mambong and PUI Melbourne.
The 11 imported cases consist of four Malaysians and seven foreign nationals.
They had entered from Saudi Arabia, Ireland, South Korea, India, Russia, USA, UK and Philippines.
Noor Hisham said despite the spike in the number of new Covid-19 cases, only one patient remains under intensive care. – July 28, 2020.
