POLICE have reminded supporters of Najib Razak gathered outside the Kuala Lumpur court complex to observe social distancing and to wear masks while they await the court’s verdict on seven charges faced by the former prime minister in his SRC International corruption trial.
Patrol cars in the area made announcements through loudspeaker about 11.30am after seeing the crowd of people begin disregard recovery movement control order (RMCO) rules to contain the spread of Covid-19.
A second announcement was made about 20 minutes later.
About 300 supporters of the former Umno president are currently milling around outside the court complex.
Many had arrived as early as 7.30am in a convoy of buses, with some coming from other states.
Umno member Rosli Abu Bakar, 51, from Baling, Kedah, said the division would support Najib no matter the outcome.
“I came all the way from Baling to support Bossku. We will stand together with Bossku no matter what,” he said, referring to Najib’s moniker popular among the Malay grassroots.
Another Umno member, Nur Aina Syub, 48, also from Kedah, said she was convinced Najib was innocent.
“He is being persecuted. If he is pronounced guilty, we will still support him,” said the Sungai Petani resident.
Police sources from the Sentul district said officers were monitoring the crowd to take necessary action if supporters flout Covid-19 mitigation rules. – July 28, 2020.
