A MAXIMUM of 10 animals can be sacrificed within the compounds of mosques, surau or areas permitted by the religious authorities for the coming Hari Raya Aidiladha, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob this afternoon.

However, he suggested that it would be better if the ritual could take place at slaughterhouses in view of the need to stop the spread of Covid-19.

“We allow a maximum of 10 cattle for each mosque but it depends on the area. Small places cannot have 10 animals.

“Even though we allow the ritual to take place at mosques or surau, it is best for them to have it at a slaughtering house,” he said.

“They cannot have a feast after the korban, but they can have takeaways instead,” he added.

Hari Raya Aidiladha falls on July 31.

During the height of the Covid-19 spread, the government cancelled large Hari Raya Aidilfitri events and forbade people from the traditional balik kampung.

For Aidiladha, Muslims are allowed to visit families but must confine their celebrations to 20 people at a time.

Malaysia is now under the recovery movement control order, as the government seeks to stimulate the economy. – July 27, 2020.
