Give Jakim more power to ‘cure’ LGBT folk, PAS man urges govt

THE Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) should be given more power to “cure” the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, a PAS lawmaker told the Dewan Rakyat today.

Party central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said the nation is plagued by the LGBT “phenomenon”.

“This noble initiative by Jakim should be continued and improved, so that many people can be saved and brought back to their original nature,” he said while debating the royal address.

He said he supports Putrajaya’s recent move to give Jakim more say in dealing with members of the LGBT community, especially transgenders.

“I support the stand taken by the Religious Affairs Department to authorise enforcement against transgenders. This is not aimed at punishing them, but returning them to the right path.”

As an Islamic country, said the Bachok MP, Malaysia should take a firm stance on the issue.

“Even though the world has bowed down to LGBT demands, Malaysia should prevent all LGBT ideologies and practices from entering the country.”

He said LGBT activists are the biggest obstacle in the government’s way.

“This noble cause has been looked down on by these activists. They are pessimistic about the steps taken by the government to save this group.

“What’s astonishing is that they actually feel this invades their (LGBT community’s) privacy and intrudes into their personal space.

“LGBT activists are prejudiced against the positive measures taken by the government, especially Jakim.”

Having same-sex relations is a crime in Malaysia.

According to 2013 Health Ministry statistics, there were some 173,000 homosexuals in the country, comprising 2% of the population, with Malays making up 70% to 80% of the group. – July 27, 2020.

  • I think Jakim can prescribe hydroxychloroquine tablets twice a day for a month and the Tansgender slickness can be reversed.

  • This jabatan is seriously pointless. We don't need a pointless jabatan to safeguard our faith. Better do something more worthwhile and constructive like helping the poor or battered women in bad marriage. Hell! You can even channel all your fucked-up energy in helping the hardcore poor.
