1 virus death, 13 new cases, 6 recoveries

MALAYSIA today reported one death from Covid-19, for a national death toll of 124.

The last time the coronavirus claimed a life in Malaysia was one July 19.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today’s victim was a 63-year-old woman with a history of high blood pressure, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia.

She died today at 12.04am. She had shown sighs of a cough and fever before she was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital.

Today also saw 13 new infections, three of which were imported. All save one of the 10 cases of local transmission were Malaysians.

The Bukit Tiram cluster in Johor saw seven new infections, one of them a foreigner. Meanwhile, the Sentosa Hospital cluster reported one new case, a Malaysian.

One case was detected in Pahang during pre-procedure screening while a new case in Sabah was a close contact of a Covid-19 patient.

At the same time, six people recovered and were discharged from hospital, taking the total number of recoveries to 8,600

Total cases now stand at 8,897, of which 173 are active cases.

Two patients are currently in intensive care, one of them intubated. – July 26, 2020.
