THE Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has again revised its vehicle sales forecast for the year.

MAA in January announced a sales projection of 607,000 units for 2020, which was in May revised to 400,000 in May.

MAA president Aishah Ahmad today said the projection has been revised upward to 470,000 units because of the Penjana stimulus package.

She said the projection is realistic even though it is not positive.

Although sales was slow in the first half of the year, it is expected to pick up in the second half, she said.

“The government has given a 100% exemption on the sales tax for complete knocked-down and 50% for complete built-up, for which we are very grateful,” said Aishah.

“Without that, there will be no showroom traffic. People will not be willing to come in (but) now we can see that the traffic is there. People are coming in, requesting to test drive vehicles, and so on.” – July 24, 2020.
