THE new ceiling price for masks will be set to RM1.20 August 15 onwards, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He told the Dewan Rakyat the price revision is in line with the government’s plans to make wearing masks in public compulsory.

The current wholesale price for one mask is RM1.45. This will be reduced by 30sen to RM1.15, he said.

The retail price that currently stands at RM1.50 per mask will be reduced to RM1.20.

The ministry said there is sufficient mask supply provided by domestic makers, imports and vendors online.

“The government is considerate and sensitive towards the latest development of Covid-19, especially when it comes to the need for masks.

“We will continue to study the need to reduce the price of masks and to ensure that there is enough supply.”

The minister was responding to a supplementary question by Rohani Abdul Karim (Batang Lupar-GPS) on the rationale behind the price reduction for masks. – July 23, 2020.
